When I started this blog a few years back, I told myself
that I would make it only about sports in the Atlanta area.
But for this blog post, I wanted to talk about
something different. It’s something that has been on my mind for the last few
months.
If you know me, I don’t drink alcohol. When I’m
asked why I don’t drink, I tell them I don’t like the taste of alcohol.
That is true, but there is a little more to it.
I’m a very observant individual. When I see people drink
and have a good time, that’s fine. But when people continue to drink throughout
the night and get hammered, that’s fine, but it’s a position that I never want
to be in mainly because I always want to be in control when it comes to my
body.
Another reason is I never thought drinking was a big
deal, even when I turned 21. That was actually when I made the decision not to
drink because I never looked at it as something that I needed to do. And I
still feel that way to this day.
I will say this. I’m not going to sit here and say
that I will never drink as long as I live. There will be a time when I may want
to have a drink, but I will do it on my terms. Nobody is going to make me do
anything that I don’t want to do. I am not going to be influenced by anybody because
I know better.
That’s all I wanted to say about this. I felt like I
needed to say something because I have been asked the question concerning why I
don’t drink a lot lately. Maybe it’s the fact that I hang out at bars all the
time and people just see me drink water. That’s fine, but does it really matter
what I drink when I go out? Who am I hurting by not drinking?
Okay that’s really it. This is one of the few times
that I will blog about something other than sports. Hopefully, I will be able
to update my blog more often because I have not been able to do that this past
year with other projects going on. I promise the next blog will be soon and it
will talk about the many things I have going on in the sports journalism world.
